The pandemic forced me to pay attention to myself. It allowed me the time and space to begin to acknowledge, address, and heal the parts of me that I have worked so hard to hide.

This piece is a visual representation of the thoughts and feelings that are constantly brewing just underneath our smiling masks. The internal chaos that is held at bay by tediously constructed barriers of hope and love. Light uses her cracks to seep in, and prove she is too strong to be broken. Scars heal stronger than untouched flesh.

original haiku by the artist on painting:

Too stubborn to crack

But I’ll crumble just a bit

To let in the light
