Mint and Red Handbuilt Bowl
Created during the artist’s Clay in Contemporary Culture course at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, this medium-sized, fully functional food bowl reflects an integration of traditional handbuilding methods with contemporary surface and color experimentation.
 
The form was achieved by carving out the center of a solid red clay body, producing a lightweight yet durable structure with a balanced profile.
 
High-fired for strength and longevity, the surface is finished in layered mint green and red glazes. Where the glazes meet, they produce subtle transitions and tonal shifts, adding visual depth and variation across the bowl’s interior and exterior.
 
Fully food, microwave, and dishwasher safe, the piece is intended for regular use while retaining the tactile irregularities and formal nuances of its handbuilt origin.
 
The work embodies the artist’s approach to functional ceramics as a site for formal and chromatic investigation, merging utility with a refined, contemporary aesthetic.
