Lorraine Formato Pottery
Born one of eight children on a tobacco farm in Stokes County, North Carolina, Lorraine Formato grew up surrounded by the rhythms of rural life. An avid reader, she educated herself through books, fostering a lifelong curiosity and creative spirit. In the 1970s, she discovered clay and quickly developed a passion for wheel-throwing, glazing, and the timeless art of functional pottery. For more than forty years, Lorraine has shaped pieces that reflect the Appalachian landscapes she’s called home—soft hills, worn stones, and earthy tones drawn from the natural world. Each pot, bowl, and vesel is made to be both useful and beautiful, crafted by hand so no two are ever quite the same. Her pottery is meant to be lived with—filling your hands, your table, and your home with warmth, tradition, and the enduring touch of an artisan’s hand.
